Martin Luther King Jr. Day
(Third Monday in January)

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, birthday is observed on the third Monday in January. This day was signed into law in 1986 by President Reagan, after almost 20 years of social pressure. The fact that he was honored with a federal holiday is a tremendous event. In the United States, the only other nationally observed birthdays for individuals are for George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Martin Luther King Jr. is in very good company.
