LETTER TYPE: LETTER PURPOSE:
acknowledgement:
This formally tells the addressee that you have received his message.
announcement:
Gives news about something new or important in the company.
apology:
Says you're sorry for what went wrong - a problem or a mistake, etc.
complaint:
Says you're unhappy about something.
collection letter:
You send these if your client doesn't pay.
enquiry:
Asks a question of a company.
execution of order:
Tells your customer when he/she can expect the merchandise.
invoice:
A bill. This letter asks for money. 
letter of application:
First contact with a new employer - you want to work at the company.
letter of resignation:
Tells the addressee that you want to quit your job.
mailing:
A sales letter sent to many prospects at the same time.
price quotation:
Tells your potential client what your sales conditions are.
reply:
Letter you send in answer to a message.
