Polite Question:

Past Ability:

Making a Suggestion:
We could have a picnic this weekend.
Expressing a Possibility:
Jason could be at the library, but I'm not sure.
Expressing impossibility:
Jason couldn't be at the library. I just saw him in the classroom.
