One-syllable verbs ending with a Consonant-Vowel-Consonant pattern
Consonants = b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z
Vowels = a, e, i, o, u
-ED
If the word ends in a CVC pattern, it gets a double consonant + ED.
-ING
If the word ends in a CVC pattern, it gets a double consonant + ING.
stop = stopped
 cvc
stop follows the CVC pattern so it gets pp
stop =  stopping
 cvc
stop follows the CVC pattern so it gets pp
rain = rained
 vvc
rain does NOT follow the CVC pattern!
rain = raining
 vvc
rain does NOT follow the CVC pattern!
***NOTE: The CVC rule does NOT work for words ending in w, x, y, z
