CAPITAL  LETTERS

Capitalized words fall into three main groups: Names, Titles, and First Words.

Here are some examples with TITLES:

***Special note: a / an, the, of, and other short words are NOT capitalized.
CAPITALIZED: I read the Adventures of Mallory Chase in Hawaii. ("of" and "in" are not capitalized.)

BRAND NAMES OF PRODUCTS:Xerox, Memorex,
Panasonic

GOVERNMENT BODIES
and DEPARTMENTS:
the Fullerton City Council
the State Department

CAPITALIZED: I went to the Orange City Council meeting. ("City Council" is used as part of the name.)
LOWER CASE: The city council meets every Tuesday.  ("city council" is NOT used as part of the name.)

COURSE / CLASS NAMES:Economics 101, Conversational German
Abnormal Psychology

CAPITALIZED: I'm taking Algebra 209 and History 101 this semester. ("Algebra 209" is the title of the class.)
LOWER CASE: I'm studying algebra and history.  ("algebra" is NOT used as the title of the class.)

PROFESSIONAL TITLE
AS PART OF THE NAME:
Senator Dole
Professor Mallory
Councilman Cross

CAPITALIZED: I think Professor Mallory's class is fun. ("Professor" is used as part of the name.)
LOWER CASE: I think the professor's class is fun.  ("professor" is NOT used as part of the name.)
CAPITALIZED: I heard Senator Dean's speech. ("Senator" is used as part of the name.)
LOWER CASE: I heard the senator's speech.  ("senator" is NOT used as part of the name.)

POLITICAL PARTY TITLESRepublican, Democrat

CAPITALIZED: She's a member of the Democratic party. ("Democratic" refers to the political party.)
LOWER CASE: They have a democratic way of life.  ("democratic" is NOT used as a political party.)

GROUP TITLES, CLUB TITLES:Kiwanis Club
International Student Union
Cat Lover's Foundation

CAPITALIZED:He belongs to the Kiwanis Club. ("Club" is used as part of the name.)
LOWER CASE: He is a club member.  ("club" is NOT used as part of the name.)

RELIGIONS, RACES:Christian, Muslim
Caucasian, Afro-American
